DEMPOD

PODCAST FOR DEMOCRACY

OUR objective

To empower disadvantaged youth to use podcasts as a tool in their local contexts in order to increase their civic engagement and their participation in the democratic life.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Each generation has its own unique voice and methods for driving positive change. Today’s generation is shaped by the digital and social media age, where online platforms have become central to self-expression. Social media can be a force for both good and bad, and it’s up to engaged citizens to determine which direction it takes.

Where older generations relied on radio, today’s generation turns to podcasts. Unlike traditional radio, which was more limited and costly to produce, podcasts offer a more accessible and inclusive platform for content creation. Similarly, streaming videos have replaced television as the go-to medium for modern audiences, allowing more people to share their views freely. With the right knowledge, individuals have the power to spread ideas that can contribute to a better world.

However, the digital space can be a battleground. While some will use it to promote negative, false, or biased information, creating positive, meaningful content is crucial. This ensures young people have access to informal education on essential social, political, and human issues. Podcasts, in particular, play a vital role in promoting media literacy and civic participation, empowering young people to voice their opinions independently, outside the control of traditional media. This is especially important for disadvantaged youth, whose voices are often overlooked by mainstream media outlets.
